Alder Biopharmaceuticals

The folks at Bothell-based Alder aren't just working to develop drugs to treat cancer, autoimmune disease and inflammatory disorders. An equal part of their goal is to develop such drugs in ways that make them faster to produce and, most importantly, cheaper to buy. That's what makes the scientists and staffers here really love what they do.

This maker of antibody therapy drugs is a young company, founded in 2004, that has yet to become profitable. But they're taking great care of their quickly expanding staff along the way. The excellent benefits package comes at zero cost to the 47 employees, with 100 percent of premiums for them and their dependents paid. That includes dental, life insurance and long-term disability, plus three weeks of vacation per year, and a week off between Christmas and New Year's for good measure. And when the day comes that they do take a successful and affordable drug to market, the available stock options should assure that the staff will truly enjoy the fruits of their labor.
