Rusty George Creative

PHOTO Rusty George Creative's Tacoma office is a converted garage with style to burn. Rusty George of Rusty George Creative says that after years of working in a bland cubicle environment, he wanted his office to be a place that makes you feel like a 10-year-old again. This small design firm has been on the crest of Tacoma's revitalization wave, and its environment of creativity and outside thinking has been of utmost importance not only in transforming the face of the city, but in attracting and retaining the kind of talent that knows how to do it. The studio is a converted garage that has been spiced up with brightly colored walls, a Nintendo Wii, a vintage tiki bar (well stocked) and even a staff dog. The 15-member crew goes out often to blow off steam together -- they've gone go-karting, rock climbing and to the park to play bocce. And they put their creative chops to charitable use with pro bono work for their favorite nonprofits, like the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and the American Heart Association. Tacoma is on its way to attracting more young, creative people and dynamic small companies, and those at Rusty George might just have something to do with that.
