Most eco-friendly

Premera Blue Cross

With 3,000 employees and 1.6 million members, Premera Blue Cross goes through an awful lot of paper. So they make a big effort to cut down on killing trees. Most desks have buckets for both garbage and recycling underneath them. Employees are encouraged to use both sides of the page whenever possible, and members are encouraged to process their claims electronically rather than in a flurry of paperwork sent through the mail. The company also tries to do its part in keeping the air a little cleaner by banning smoking on campus and helping to arrange employee carpools. The best parking spots are set aside for those who share rides in. For employees who bike in, showers on campus make it easier for the cyclists (and those who sit near them) to be comfortable at work after their rides.

PCC Natural Markets is so invested in environmental responsibility that the topic is a part of the company mission statement. To that end, the PCC Web site provides information on sustainability, the Redmond store location is the first grocery store in the world to be LEED certified and the company was recently recognized as "best workplace for recycling" by King County.
