Best biotech company

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center

PHOTO Fred Hutch's Nobel laureates: from left, Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, Dr. Linda Buck and Dr. Lee Hartwell. The company you identified as your favorite biotech to work for is far more than just a biotech lab -- it's a nonprofit research institution, a public health center and a hospital where doctors spend as much time treating patients as they do advancing cures for them. While most of us don't even have a single Nobel laureate to trade sandwiches with in the lunchroom, the 2,700 employees of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have three. In their midst are one doctor who pioneered bone marrow transplants, one who made major breakthroughs in the study of cell division and a third who unraveled the mysteries of the olfactory system. It's being a part of a group that leads the world in cancer research that makes the Fred Hutch team proud of where they work, and for some of them, it's quite personal. "As a cancer survivor, I have directly benefited from their advances in medical research and partly credit them for my survival!" said one employee. "I believe that with their great works, we WILL find a cure in my lifetime."
